FLOURAE & CO

Thank you for taking your time to drop by and be interested in getting to know more about Flourae And Co. First off, please allow me to feed you a little about Flourae And Co before sharing the story of how we venture our baking journey. :)

Flourae & Co (pronounced Flaa-eh) is a baking studio specializing in personalized buttercream flower cakes and cupcakes for special occasions such as birthdays, corporate functions, and any celebration that calls for a glamorous floral cake.

We also offer chiffon cakes in our signature default designs. Known for their light and delicate texture, our chiffon cakes are decorated thoughtfully, as we believe the design should complement the flavour, making the decoration part of the tasting experience we wish to share with our customers.

Occasionally, we introduce new recipes and baked goods to our seasonal menu.

Apart from making cakes for different occasions, Flourae and co also enjoyed sharing knowledge and skills by conducting buttercream flower piping lessons.

Hi, my name is sherny.

I am the founder behind Flourae and co (Formerly known as Sherny Patisserie), I am also a self-taught baking enthusiast who growing up enjoyed baking a lot. What started as a hobby became my passion, and now sharing my love for baking is my daily purpose.

The begining of my baking journey was simple, it was all about the cake-making and decorating with very basic ingredients, and sharing my baked goods around. This practice had been going on for a while until one certain day dating back to 2015, when my friend's mother offered me a slice of marble cake that she specially baked out of hospitality. YALL, that was the most delectable cake I've ever had! That one slice of marble cake,  got me the immediate affection that made me realized: The importance of using fine ingredients, and baking the cakes from scratch = IMPRESSIVE!  I am even more certain of what I yearn in baking after when I discovered the Korean Buttercream Flower.

In 2017, I founded Sherny Patisserie as a platform to showcase my buttercream flower crafts (at this point of time it's not even earning yet). It's all started with a hand-mixer and a 52L oven in a tiny 78 sqft guest room— my makeshift dream studio. If I were to be honest, that room was so packed and hot especially when the oven's running, I don’t know how I went through those impracticable days, but thinking about it today, those were actually the essence of my baking journey...:’D

Here, I must credit my husband, Tan, my greatest supporter and mentor, who watched my small passion grow and always encouraged me as I pursued my love for creating buttercream flower cakes during a difficult year of uncertainty. At that time, I was making a decent living with my job, but I found myself immersed in cake decorating more than ever before. Listening to his advice, I finally decided to take the leap and fully commit myself to Sherny Patisserie, with Tan becoming a big part of the business behind the scenes. :)

My first major step as a full-time baker was to move back home from the big city I once thought I’d settle in forever. It was a choice I never imagined making so early in life, but sometimes, new paths reveal themselves in the most unexpected ways. D:  I opened my first baking studio at Plaza 333. Sherny Patisserie later changed into Flourae & Co. Then what followed were countless sleepless nights rushing orders, navigating uncertainties, and learning to overcome challenges along the way. Those were the most incredible years taught me more than I could have ever imagined.

Just when I thought I had everything figured out, COVID-19 hit. With restrictions in place and the studio being quite far from home, I had no choice but to start taking orders from home instead. Interestingly, we had actually bought our first house just before the pandemic, which added the challenge of managing rent, a mortgage, and a business that could only take very limited orders from home. After many long discussions, we eventually decided to close the studio and run the bakery from home. Not long after, Tan made the bold decision to leave his job and join me on this baking journey.

And that is how Flourae & Co. became what it is today — a cozy, home-based baking studio run by a husband and wife. :))

I am always grateful that I am able to transform my interest into a full-time career, how blessed I am to have a job so gratifying. Regardless of all the caking stuff, I've met many like-minded friends from all walks of life along the same path too... The world is never predictable, someday everything makes perfect sense, and someday it just don't. If you are struggling with life choices as you're reading this now, do not be afraid to open up to any potential possibility, because it's often the last key in the bunch that opens the lock! :)

Hi, my name is Tan.

Hi, I'm Tan, the proud co-founder of Flourae & Co and the husband in the kitchen. <3 I officially joined the team full-time in August 2022, but my journey with Flourae & Co started long before that.

I graduated from TARUC with an HD in Culinary Arts, Hospitality, and Tourism Management. However, after graduation, my career took me in a different direction. Over the years, I gained diverse work experience: Leading the customer relations department for 4-5 years, serving as an executive manager for 2 years, and freelancing as an admin for 4 years. Despite trying various roles, I still struggled to find a true sense of achievement and fulfillment in my career.

Meanwhile, Sherny had already been running the cake business for years. I’ve always been curious about what drives her unwavering dedication to it. Initially, because of my field of study in uni and internship experience, she began turning to me for advice and involving me more in the business, as she didn’t have a background in the F&B industry at the time. Back then, I mainly supported her behind the scenes. Even so, I never really considered myself as part of the team; It simply just felt like a 'husband helping his wife' task.

Then the pandemic arrived. Like everyone else, we faced uncertainty as the world slowed down. During that period, I had the chance to spend more time around the business. Watching how the business was running up close, how Sherny stayed focused on keeping things moving forward, I began to see the potential in what this entire business is giving. That was also when I started to realize the real excitement of building something of our own, and how this once simple “hobby” of hers could grow into something meaningful and sustainable for the future. It somehow brought me back to why I chose to study Culinary Arts in the first place.

Ever since then, I started committing more time to the kitchen, learning along the way and gradually growing into the role. In August 2022, I took a leap of faith and decided to pursue this journey full-time. It was a big step, but thanks to Sherny, who kept me involved in the business all these years and generously shared her baking knowledge and experiences, so I was able to pick up everything in the business quickly. The only exception is Korean Buttercream Flower, which I happily leave to herself because… let’s be honest, my artistic sense isn’t the best! XD

Oh, and if you’ve placed a cake order with delivery, you might have even spotted me helping out on the deliveries. :)

Sherny often says that I was the one who gave her the confidence to pursue her dream. But honestly, I’m just grateful she didn’t disappoint me with all the advice I gave her haha! Now, I’m always excited to see what’s next for us.

Thank you for supporting us on this journey. ;-)
